About Adoption Subsidy Advocates

Steven Humerickhouse and Timothy O'Hanlon established Adoption Advocates in 1995 to support adoption through direct advocacy for individual adoptive families and to provide technical assistance to organizations and professionals. Steve Humerickhouse is not an active partner at this time. Renamed Adoption Subsidy Advocates in 2002, the organization is developing a strong record of success in their efforts to help families obtain support.

Timothy O'Hanlon has been an effective advocate for adoptive families for a number of years. As a state government employee (aka bureaucrat), he was instrumental in crafting the policy reforms which allow adoptive families to file appeals for federal adoption assistance and retroactive benefits after a final decree of adoption. Mr. O'Hanlon received the Adoption Triad Activist Award from Adoption Network (Cleveland) in 1993 and the Adoption Activist Award in 1994 from the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC). In November 1998, he was one of eight recipients of an Adoption 2002 Excellence award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (see the HHS announcement for details).
